The agreement

Yen is an app for two people. These terms are the agreement between you and Yen for using it. Installing or using Yen means you accept them.

1. Who may use Yen

You must be at least 13 years old, and at least 16 in the EEA and the UK. You need an account, and you are responsible for what happens under it. One account belongs to one person — Yen is built on the assumption that the other person in your room is somebody else.

2. The room

Yen pairs exactly two accounts into a shared space. Everything you keep there — memories, capsules, jar notes, the shared note, answers — is visible to both of you and to no one else.

A room is joint, and that has consequences worth stating plainly: either of you can end it. Leaving a room, in Settings, dissolves it for both members. A dissolved room cannot be reopened, joined, or claimed by anyone, and when the last member leaves, the room and everything inside it are deleted. Keep your own copies of anything you would be sorry to lose.

Your partner can see what you put in the room. Yen withholds some things until the right moment, and those gates are described in the Privacy Policy, but nothing in Yen is hidden from the person you paired with permanently.

3. Membership and billing

Some features require a membership. Memberships are sold as auto-renewing subscriptions through Apple’s App Store, and are governed by Apple’s terms as well as these.

One membership covers your room — both of you, on one payment.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation, and renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
Cancel in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the current period runs out.
Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, not by Yen.
Prices may change. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for, and you will be told before a renewal at a new price.

If a free trial is offered, an unused portion is forfeited when a subscription is purchased.

4. Your content stays yours

Your photographs, words, drawings, and recordings are yours. You keep every right in them.

You grant Yen only the narrow permission it needs to operate: to store, transmit, resize, cache, and display your content to you and to your partner, for as long as you keep it in Yen. That permission covers nothing else. Yen does not publish your content, does not show it to anyone outside your room, does not use it in marketing, and does not train anything on it.

You are responsible for having the right to upload what you upload — including the right to share a photograph of another person.

5. Acceptable use

Do not use Yen to:

harass, threaten, stalk, coerce, or monitor a person against their will;
share sexual content involving anyone under 18, or any content that is illegal where either of you is;
upload content you have no right to share, or another person’s intimate images without their consent;
impersonate someone, or pair with someone under a false identity;
attack, probe, or reverse-engineer the service, or attempt to reach data belonging to another couple.

Location sharing is for people who both want it. Using Yen to track a partner who has not freely agreed is a misuse of the app, and both consents are revocable in Settings at any time.

Report anything that breaks these rules to us. Reports are read by a person. Accounts used to abuse another person are removed.

6. Ending it

You may leave your room or delete your account at any time, in Settings. Yen may suspend or remove an account that breaks section 5, or where it is required by law. If Yen is ever discontinued, you will be given notice and a period in which to retrieve your content.

7. What Yen does not promise

Yen is provided as it is. It is a small app, and it can fail: a notification may not arrive, a sky may be wrong, a map may be stale, and a service it depends on may go down. To the extent the law allows, Yen makes no warranty of uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Yen is not a safety service. Do not rely on its map, its distance, or its notifications in an emergency.

Keep your own copies of what matters. Yen takes backups for its own resilience, but it is not an archive, and you should not treat it as the only place a photograph exists.

8. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Yen is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, or for lost content or lost profits. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for Yen in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights that cannot be limited under the law where you live — including statutory consumer rights.

9. Changes

These terms may change. The date at the top changes with them, and material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Yen after that means accepting the new version.

10. Your local law

Nothing in these terms takes away a right you have under the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and those rights apply whatever else this document says.
